The CES 2012 had ASUS showing off one of the most innovative products of this year. The Padfone.
Asus Padfone is a strange, but wonderful combination of a smartphone and a tablet. Actually, the tablet is just an extension of the smartphone. You dock the smartphone into the tablet and the tab shows an enlarged version of the smartphone’s UI. While the smartphone goes with a 4.3 inch screen, the tablet comes at 10.1 inches – decently large enough. The smartphone also gets you a 5 MP camera.
When it was first unveiled in May last year, it ran on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. But looks like the Android ICS phenomena has touched ASUS Padfone too. At the CES 2012, the ASUS Padfone came out with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which definitely is a great sign.
As far as ASUS Padfone release date is concerned, it’s quite obvious that it is going to be soon this year. The prototypes shown at the CES 2012 are very much complete by the looks and performance. We are expecting the release to be sometime soon in the first quarter of this year. The ASUS Padfone price is unclear though. It’s a very atypical product of whose type, no releases have ever come out before. That makes pricing a tad tougher. The smartphone looks to arrive in single-contract which would make it a bit costly. Also, the tab tagging along would increase the prices.
But the ASUS Padfone has a lot riding in.
First off, it is going to make things simpler and easier for people by getting them both the smartphone and the tablet at one go. Spending a lot for each is something people are not comfortable with, so this smartphone-docking-in-tablet system is surely an innovation that would raise the horizons for technology.
Secondly, the ASUS Padfone would be a boon to technology if things roll right. It would easily integrate two of the most popular products of last year – the smartphone and the tablet! If things to right, this would be an innovation to be on the look-out for.
